Christmas 2011

There is something extra special about Christmas when you have little ones around the house. Boston had a blast with all the family jam packed into one week. We arrived in Sherwood Park late Friday night and had a quick visit with my family before heading to bed. The next day we went to visit Santa (posted about that here) and then my brother and his family came over for Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day was wonderful. Boston was very excited to open his stocking and all his presents.

Christmas Eve and also Christmas night we watched movies, very traditional in our family. Scott begged up to watch his favourite christmas movie on Christmas Eve, A Family Stone.

Boxing day, my brother, Tami, Deb (Tami's mom), Scott and I went to the new Mission Impossible movie, after we went back to my parents house and we played a very friendly long game of rook. We also took a few minutes to teach Boston a few tips.

We didn't get to see everyone we wanted in Edmonton, but did get a chance to visit with a few really good friends. After our time in Sherwood Park came to an end, we headed to Calgary. Boston got to open presents once again and play with new toys and his cousins. He also got to go to his Grandpa's work and try out some heavy machinery.

Sadly Boston got sick on Saturday (New Years Eve) and threw up all day and continued to throw up for 5 days straight. He stayed right here in this position on the Fullmer's couch for 2 days before we loaded him into the car for a long drive home. Boston doesn't talk too much, but after he would throw up, he would start shaking his head no and say, "I Don't, I Don't", in the saddest little voice!

We arrived home in Regina around 12:30 in the morning and I had to work in the morning. Scott was especially worried about Boston since he was getting so skinny and hadn't kept anything down for 2 days. We ended up going to the hospital to get Boston some good medicine to help keep down some liquid! I'm not a good mother and thought he would be fine and didn't want to go. After my recent adventure to the hospital, I just didn't want to go through that again.

The hospital went good. They said he had really low blood sugar and wouldn't let us leave till it went up. He also weighed a few ounzes less than what he did on November 9, at his shots (24 lbs 12 oz). We weren't there too long and I was able to get in 1 hour of sleep before going to work. The next 3 days, Boston slowly made his recovery.

Luckily Boston got better after the 5th day. He is eating so much, it's getting ridicules. Making up for 5 days of no food.

Merry Christmas

A little late??

But MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Boston hated Santa. He loved him last year. This Santa was actually really nice, just a bad photo all together. But every child needs a crying with Santa picture!

Gingerbread Apartment

Last night our little family made our first ever gingerbread house. I thought since Boston has never lived in a house, only apartments, that we should make a gingerbread apartment!

Boston like all kids, was more interested in eating the candy than anything. The marshmallows and smarties were his favorite.

Christmas Centre Pieces

I need your help! I am trying to come up with an inexpensive DIY centre piece for my church christmas party. I am borrowing these great vintage canning jars from a friend and trying to come up with a filler for the inside. I did the christmas party last year, so i am reusing the green branches and bought new berries this year. The centre piece last year wasn't see through and a tad smaller, so i am stuck on ideas. I have also tried, ornaments inside, but those either don't look nice or they don't fit. I also have thought about popcorn, but Boston isn't fully sleeping yet and i don't want to wake him.

What is everyones pick? Or take your favourite and make adjustments. Or trust tell me to scratch these and start all over again!

The one that looks like ice is water and saran wrap. Thanks Liam for the idea!

And also what should i put the jar on? The stripes in the first few pictures were from last year and the red dots are a napkin. But open to any cheap idea.

I should mention the party is Saturday and i am busy doing a lot of other things for the party plus going to work every day. Please suggest nothing time consuming ;)

Vacation Ended

We were very fortunate to go to Alberta for 4 weeks. Scott had 4 weeks off school and we packed up and left Regina. We spent 2 weeks in Calgary and 2 weeks in Sherwood Park. Mostly we did a whole lot of nothing but spend time with family and friends.

I think Boston did the most out of the three of us. Right before we left he had started to army crawl pretty good, but while in Alberta he learned to do normal crawling and pull himself up. He also climbed the stairs! He saw Scott sitting on the stairs on day and climbed all the way up to see him. It was his first time on the stairs since we have no stairs in our apartment. He also started putting himself to sleep and did pretty good at sleeping though the night (which has all gone down hill since we got back to our apartment).

Here is a random picture overload from the last month!

A few seconds after this picture was taken, Boston started sliding off the seat and through the hole at the feet. He was smart enough to grab on to the wheel and hold on till someone saved him!

The tree on Christmas Eve.

This is fun.

More presents please!

What, another gift?? Please also notice the third outfit of Christmas... Boston had tons of gifts and we spread them out through out the day. Especially since he fall asleep before we finished opening all of ours.

New hat Grandma Fullmer bought Boston.

Happy to be out of his car seat after about a 3 hour drive... sadly there was still 6 more hours to go!

Santa! Boston was amazed at Santa. He didn't cry, just stared at Santa with his hands reaching towards his face but didn't dare to touch him.

First taste of a cookie and we made sure it was the Fullmer's family favourite.

I left Scott to babysit Boston in the morning, only to come downstairs and see that Scott must have ignored him because Boston was dead asleep in a kneeling position perched up on the pillow.

Home at last! But before we could put Boston to bed, we had to lower the mattress in his crib.

Christmas Time at the Mom's

This Christmas was spent with my in-laws. My mother-in-law is an amazing decorator. I was silly and only took one picture of her christmas decorations. Here is her pretty tree.
A few days after Christmas we headed to my mom's house, who is also an amazing decorator. I was smart this time and took some pictures. Here is a peek at her decorations.

Christmas Twist to My Favourite Cookie

My all time favourite cookie is a homemade Oreo cookie! Most people I know have had one, but not everyone. If you fit into the never category, please please, make a batch and let me know what you think!
Oreo Cookies
2 pkg. devils food cake mix
4 eggs
2/3 cup oil
Mix together, roll into balls. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes and let cool.
4 cups icing sugar
1/4 cup butter
8 oz. (250 g) cream cheese
1 tsp. vanilla
Spread onto two cookies and put together like Oreos!
Now for my Christmas twist!
First I added, green food coloring to the cream cheese filling then I finely crushed some candy canes.
After I constructed the cookies, I rolled the cookie in the candy canes.

Lastly I ate... a lot of them, but I wasn't the only one!

Nativity Blocks

I saw this idea online and my mom and I decided to make them last year for each of my siblings, my husbands sister, my best friend and of course a set for ourselves.
We thought it would be the perfect craft that kids can play with and their moms won’t tell them not to touch. It isn’t fancy or anything, but cute!
My dad cut the blocks out and my mom and I painted and mod podged the characters on. The characters are stickers from the Me & My Big Idea collection which i do believe is discontinued now (I found my set on eBay). But new sticker designs are coming out all the time. I would recommend finding a digital set you can print as many times as you would like and cut out.
Here is my set, sitting on my ugly fireplace... apartment is a rental so nothing I can do about the fireplace. Maybe if you look close enough you can see where previous renters used the wood as a nice place to put their dart board!
Here is my mom's display.

Here is a picture from my best friend Breanne's display. She is renovating her house and doing an amazing job at it. Check her out here.
My sister-in-law kids lost the Jesus block this year. It was a big joke in the family that they were trying to find Jesus this Christmas. So far, Jesus is yet to be found in the Simpson household ;)
